Where is Preferred Pediatrics located?

Our office is conveniently located near Chipman and Commerce in Lee’s Summit. We are the sole occupants of our building, so parking is always ample and right in front of the door. If you need detailed directions, call the office; we would be happy to provide them to you.

What is Urgent Care?

If you are unable to make an appointment during the regular office hours, you can utilize the urgent care hours. Urgent care is essentially a walk in service we provide from 8:30 to 10 am Monday through Friday and 4:30pm to 6pm Monday through Thursday. We also provide urgent care on Saturdays from 9 to 11am. You do not need an appointment, but if you call and let us know you are coming, it can speed up the process. Each provider works a different night of the week and rotates Saturdays, so you are unable to request a specific provider for Urgent Care.

Urgent Care is billed to your insurance differently than care during regular office hours. Your insurance co-pay for urgent care may not be the same as your regular co-pay. Please refer to your insurance card or ask your insurance carrier for the Urgent Care co-pay fees to avoid any surprises.

We are always on call! After Hours…

If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 first, then call the office. Phone calls after hours do wake the providers, so routine calls should be made during regular business hours. Also, we cannot make appointments after the office has closed; please call for appointments during regular hours. When the office is closed you may reach a provider by calling the regular office number and leaving a message. The provider on call is paged and will return your call within 30 minutes. If you do not hear from us within one hour, please call back. Technology is not perfect and we may not have gotten the message or part of the phone number may have been dropped. Please keep in mind that medication requests made after hours or on weekends may not be filled because we do not have access to patient information. Antibiotics will not be prescribed without your child being evaluated by one of our providers. We cannot provide your child with the appropriate care if we have not examined them.

If your child needs to be seen after hours, we recommend Children’s Mercy Hospital’s urgent care centers and emergency department. These facilities are staffed by pediatricians and will give you the same level of care you receive in the office. We do not recommend other urgent care centers in the area. We have found the care at other local urgent cares and adult emergency departments to be inconsistent and we recommend our patients not use them routinely.
